Program Overview
Brook Road Academy is a small, college-prep independent day school
whose mission is to provide a nurturing, non-traditional learning
environment that values each student as an individual, helping each
to realize his/her fullest potential. Brook Road Academy is a place
for students who have not done well in larger, less personal settings.
The academy is small and intimate, limiting the population to not
more than fifty students in any site. By capping student enrollment,
we ensure that each student receives the individualized attention
he/she needs to excel in high school and to go on to higher education.
Brook Road offers a challenging and creative educational curriculum
that recognizes and embraces each student’s unique gifts, talents,
and learning styles. Our curriculum stimulates intellectual curiosity
by helping students develop complex critical thinking skills.
Teachers are energetic and inspiring and have a passion for both
learning and teaching. Our educators understand that learning is
a two-way exchange: knowledge is not just passed from the teacher
to student, but from student to teacher as well.
Focus is not solely on academic achievement. Instead, we strive
to foster the growth of the whole child by addressing each student’s
social, psychological and academic needs as an individual.
Brook Road seeks to instill the foundational qualities of leadership
in each of its students. Integrity, fairness, self-respect, self-esteem
and the importance of community are all characteristics we cultivate.
An important part of the educational experience at Brook Road is
the building of character. Students will be asked to look outside
themselves and provide service projects which either they or the
Academy design; service projects are a requirement for graduation.
School spirit is an important part of Brook Road Academy. Administrators
and faculty strive to create an atmosphere in which students are
proud of their school and their accomplishments.
Clubs are based on student interests and provide an excellent way
in which the individual can pursue a hobby or special interest.
Collaboration between parents, staff and students is a fundamental
component of Brook Road Academy. By bringing these three groups
together as a team, we will work together to help each student reach
his/her greatest potential.
There are alliances with outside resources, including local business,
industries and organizations that offer students “real world” experiences
within an expanding, experiential curriculum. Where our buildings
and classrooms have walls, we accept that the world of knowledge
does not.
